Folder on the system disk

No spare disk? Record into a folder on the disk Calyston is already installed on. Nothing is mounted or formatted, and recordings are pruned automatically when the disk gets close to full. This is also how you switch back to local storage from a NAS or dedicated disk — the previous target is unmounted cleanly (its data stays on it).

Network share (NAS)

Record to a TrueNAS / Synology share over NFS or SMB. Upgrade to Pro to unlock NAS recording.

Format a disk to ext4

Recording disks must be ext4. If you have a spare disk that's blank or formatted for Windows (NTFS), Calyston can wipe it to ext4 for you. This erases everything on the chosen disk — double-check you picked the right one.
